IT Anti-discrimination/anti-harassment policy

Introduction

RBA Chartered Accountant and Tax Advisor (RBA) is committed to providing a safe and respectful workplace for all of its staff. This policy sets out the company's expectations for the use of IT equipment and communications, and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind.

Scope

This policy applies to all staff of RBA, including permanent, temporary, contract, agency and freelance staff. It also applies to all visitors to the company's premises.

Discrimination

Discrimination is any act or omission that treats a person less favorably than another person on the basis of their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.

Harassment

Harassment is any unwelcome conduct that creates a hostile or offensive work environment. This includes, but is not limited to, verbal, nonverbal, and physical conduct.

Examples of discrimination and harassment

Examples of discrimination and harassment include, but are not limited to:

  • Making offensive or derogatory remarks about a person's race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.
  • Discriminating against a person in terms of hiring, firing, promotion, compensation, or other terms and conditions of employment.
  • Creating a hostile or offensive work environment through unwelcome conduct, such as offensive jokes, slurs, or gestures.
  • Threatening, intimidating, or bullying a person.
  • Retaliating against a person who has complained about discrimination or harassment.
  • Reporting discrimination and harassment.
  • If you believe that you have been discriminated against or harassed, you should report the incident to your manager, the HR department, or another trusted colleague. You may also file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Consequences

Any staff member who engages in discrimination or harassment may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
